How Form 8955-SSA deadlines are determined

The normal filing date is the last day of the seventh month after the plan year ends. A timely Form 5558 generally allows an extension to the 15th day of the third month after the normal due-date month. This tool accounts for standard U.S. federal weekend and legal-holiday moves; it does not apply disaster relief or special taxpayer-specific extensions.

For a calendar-year plan ending December 31, 2026, the unadjusted July 31, 2027 deadline falls on Saturday, so the ordinary deadline moves to Monday, August 2, 2027. The Form 5558 extended deadline is generally October 15, 2027.
